Getting Started

Your family doctor or cardiologist can refer you to our program. Please download the referral form.

No physician referral necessary for the Smoking Cessation Clinic. To book an appointment, call 604-875-4800 (select option 2).

Once we receive your referral we will contact you to arrange the following prerequisite appointments:

  1. Exercise test
  2. Blood test
  3. Intake assessment which includes a meeting with a case manager and a cardiac assessment by one of our cardiologists. The cardiologist will recommend the program that best suits your needs and cardiovascular condition.

After you have completed these assessment steps, you are ready to start your path to wellness! We will contact you to arrange a start date for your program.

What to expect?

Once enrolled, you are expected to attend your exercise and education sessions regularly.

Our exercise classes are led by trained cardiac fitness instructors. Classes are one hour and generally include:

  • Group warm-up activities with fitness instructor.
  • 30 minutes of aerobic exercise on various cardio machines, where each person exercises according to his/her own program and abilities.
  • Group cool-down activities including strength training, balance, core and flexibility exercises.

To achieve health benefits, it is recommended that you accumulate at least 150 minutes of moderate intensity aerobic physical activity per week, in bouts of 10 minutes or more. We will work with you to develop and implement an exercise routine for you to carry out at home.

During each class, you will also participate in education sessions to enhance your knowledge and awareness of heart disease, risk factors for heart disease, safe guidelines for exercise, nutrition, and stress management.
